GreenClean Commercial

Eco School & Education Cleaning on the Gold Coast

Gold Coast schools and campuses run on high foot traffic, shared surfaces and long teaching days — often in classrooms where the last thing anyone needs is a residue of harsh spray hanging in the air. GreenClean Commercial cleans classrooms, halls, libraries and amenities without the quat-based sprays linked to occupational asthma, so students, teachers and cleaning staff all breathe easier.

Why low-tox cleaning matters most in a school

Children spend a large share of their day indoors, often in enclosed classrooms with limited ventilation. They breathe faster than adults relative to body size and are closer to floors, desks and surfaces where conventional cleaning residues settle. The chemistry chosen to clean a school is not a back-of-house detail — it directly shapes the air a full room of students and staff breathe for hours.

The evidence on cleaning products is now hard to ignore. The Svanes et al. 2018 ECRHS study found lung-function decline among people who clean regularly comparable to around 20 pack-years of smoking. The AIHW attributes 9 to 15 per cent of adult-onset asthma to occupational exposure and names cleaning as a high-risk occupation. In a school, that risk lands squarely on your cleaning staff, and the sprays that create it linger in rooms occupied by children. Asthma also costs Australian employers an estimated $526.7 million a year (Deloitte Access Economics) — a burden schools carry through both staff and student absence.

The most reliable way to remove that risk is to remove the hazard at the source. That is elimination — the top of the WHS hierarchy of controls — rather than relying on ventilation, gloves or masks to manage a problem that need not exist.

How our methods work

We replace conventional spray-and-wipe chemistry with a small set of proven low-tox methods:

  • Electrolysed water (HOCl) — made on site from water and a trace of salt, it cleans effectively then reverts to salt water. It is GECA-certified and TGA-listed, so it does real work without leaving hazardous residue on desks and door handles.
  • Stabilised aqueous ozone — an effective everyday cleaner that reverts to oxygen and water, leaving nothing behind for a child to touch or breathe.
  • Dry steam — low-moisture thermal decontamination for amenities, sports change rooms and high-touch fixtures, with fast surface drying.
  • Colour-coded microfibre with disciplined dwell times, keeping classroom, kitchen and washroom cloths strictly separated to prevent cross-contamination.

Where a task is disinfection-critical — sick bays, food-prep areas, outbreak response — we retain TGA-listed disinfectants and apply them deliberately, not by default across every surface. The result is no added synthetic chemicals on general cleaning and no hazardous residue in learning spaces.

Compliance and ratings the sector is watching

From 1 December 2026, enforceable Workplace Exposure Limits (WELs) replace the current WES across roughly 700 reviewed chemicals. Schools that manage their own cleaning contracts will need confidence that whatever is used on site stays inside those limits. Eliminating hazardous products removes that exposure question altogether rather than leaving it to airflow and timing.

For newer campus buildings and refurbishments, our approach supports recognised standards. GECA-certified products are deemed-to-satisfy for the Green Star Green Cleaning credit. WELL's Cleaning Products and Protocol feature targets hazardous-chemical reduction, and NABERS Indoor Environment tests for VOCs and formaldehyde — all areas where low-tox cleaning helps rather than hinders. If your school or university is pursuing any of these, we can align our cleaning program accordingly.

What a Gold Coast school program looks like

Every site is scoped to its own timetable, but a typical program covers daily attention to classrooms, high-touch points and amenities, with halls, libraries and administration areas on a rhythm that suits usage. Sports facilities and change rooms — where the Gold Coast's warm, humid climate adds mould and odour pressure — get dry steam and closer scheduling through the wetter months.

We work around teaching hours, exams and events, and coordinate with your facilities team so learning spaces are ready and dry when students arrive. Cleaning happens across the Gold Coast through our accredited partner network, with the same methods and standards whether you run a single primary school or a multi-building campus.

Pricing without the premium myth

Low-tox cleaning does not have to cost more. We price at parity with conventional cleaning on standard scopes. A modest premium of 10 to 15 per cent applies only on health or rating-critical sites where added assurance, testing or documentation is genuinely required. You will know which applies before you commit, because the walkthrough and quote are free.

Frequently asked questions

Is eco school cleaning as effective as conventional cleaning?

Yes. Electrolysed water is TGA-listed and stabilised aqueous ozone are proven cleaners, and dry steam handles thermal decontamination on high-touch fixtures. For disinfection-critical tasks such as sick bays and food areas, we retain TGA-listed disinfectants, so hygiene standards are met without spraying harsh chemistry across every classroom surface.

Are the products safe around children and students?

The methods we use leave no hazardous residue. Electrolysed water reverts to salt water and aqueous ozone reverts to oxygen and water after cleaning. That means fewer irritants in the air and on surfaces children touch throughout the day, which is a core reason schools move to this approach.

Can you work around our timetable and school hours?

Yes. We schedule around teaching hours, exams and events, and coordinate with your facilities team so classrooms and halls are clean, dry and ready when students arrive. Sports and change-room cleaning can be timed to suit training and match schedules.

Does this help with Green Star, WELL or NABERS on our campus buildings?

It does. GECA-certified products are deemed-to-satisfy for the Green Star Green Cleaning credit, WELL's Cleaning Products and Protocol feature targets hazardous-chemical reduction, and NABERS Indoor Environment assesses VOCs and formaldehyde. We can align documentation and product choices with whichever standard your school is pursuing.

Will switching to eco cleaning cost our school more?

On standard scopes we price at parity with conventional cleaning. A 10 to 15 per cent premium only applies on health or rating-critical sites where extra assurance or documentation is genuinely needed. The site walkthrough and quote are free, so you will see the exact cost before deciding.
