Eco Retail and Showroom Cleaning in Melbourne

In Melbourne retail, presentation is the product. GreenClean Commercial delivers streak-free, residue-free finishes across shopfronts, showroom floors and shopping centre common areas — using methods that leave no hazardous residue on the surfaces your customers touch and your staff work beside all day.

First impressions, without the chemical residue

A retail or showroom floor is a sales tool. Smeared glass, hazy display cases and tacky floor coatings undermine the merchandise long before a customer reads a price tag. Conventional cleaning often trades a quick shine for an invisible film of surfactant and solvent residue that attracts dust, dulls finishes over time, and lingers on high-touch surfaces.

Our approach is built to protect presentation and the people in the space at once. Electrolysed water and stabilised aqueous ozone clean and disinfect, then revert to their harmless base states — salt water and oxygen respectively — leaving no added synthetic chemicals behind. That means no chemical haze on glass, no sticky build-up on vinyl and polished concrete, and no fragrance cloud drifting through a store where customers linger.

Why low-tox matters more in retail than most realise

Retail spaces concentrate exposure. Staff spend full shifts in enclosed showrooms and centre tenancies with variable ventilation, and cleaners themselves carry the heaviest load. The evidence is hard to ignore: a major European study (Svanes et al., 2018) linked long-term cleaning-product exposure to lung-function decline comparable to around 20 pack-years of smoking, and the AIHW attributes 9 to 15 per cent of adult-onset asthma to occupational exposure, naming cleaning as a high-risk occupation. For an employer, that is not only a duty-of-care issue but a cost one — Deloitte Access Economics puts asthma's cost to Australian employers at $526.7 million a year.

Elimination sits at the top of the WHS hierarchy of controls. Removing hazardous chemistry from the daily clean is the most durable way to reduce that risk, rather than managing it with gloves, masks and ventilation after the fact.

How the methods work

  • Electrolysed water (HOCl): made on site from water and a trace of salt, GECA-certified and TGA-listed for disinfection. It cleans glass, counters and display surfaces to a streak-free finish, then reverts to salt water.
  • Stabilised aqueous ozone: an effective general cleaner for floors and large surfaces that breaks down to oxygen and water, leaving no residue for foot traffic to track through the store.
  • Dry steam: low-moisture thermal decontamination for grout, fitting rooms, back-of-house and detailed fixtures — fast-drying, so floors reopen quickly.
  • Colour-coded microfibre with disciplined dwell times: prevents cross-contamination between customer areas, food or cafe zones, and amenities.

Where a task is disinfection-critical, we retain TGA-listed disinfectants and apply them correctly. We say no added synthetic chemicals and no hazardous residue — never chemical-free.

The compliance and ratings angle

From 1 December 2026, enforceable Workplace Exposure Limits (WELs) replace the current WES across roughly 700 reviewed chemicals. Retail groups reviewing supplier contracts now will want cleaning programs that are already aligned rather than scrambling later.

For larger developments and flagship fit-outs pursuing certification, our GECA-certified products are deemed-to-satisfy for the Green Star Green Cleaning credit. Programs can also support WELL's Cleaning Products and Protocol feature and NABERS Indoor Environment outcomes, where VOCs and formaldehyde are tested — relevant for shopping centre landlords and premium showroom operators managing indoor air quality across large enclosed floorplates.

What a Melbourne retail program looks like

Melbourne trading hours and foot-traffic patterns shape the schedule. A typical program combines a daily or nightly clean of trading floors, glass frontage, entries and amenities with periodic detailing of display fixtures, grout, fitting rooms and back-of-house. High-traffic entries and customer touchpoints get closer attention, and CBD tenancies often need overnight windows to be trade-ready by open. Coastal and humid conditions across parts of greater Melbourne add mould and moisture pressure to back-of-house areas and storerooms, which dry steam handles without introducing more damp.

Scope is set at the walkthrough — we do not quote blind. Frequency, surface mix, certification requirements and trading hours all feed the plan.

Frequently asked questions

Will eco cleaning actually leave glass and display cases streak-free?

Yes. Electrolysed water cleans to a streak-free finish and reverts to salt water, so there is no surfactant film left to haze over or attract dust. For retail glass frontage and showroom display cases, this often looks cleaner for longer than conventional sprays that leave residue behind.

Is it safe for customers and staff during trading hours?

Our core methods leave no added synthetic chemicals and no hazardous residue, so there is no fragrance cloud or solvent film in areas people touch and browse. That said, most retail cleaning runs overnight or before open so floors are dry and trade-ready. We schedule around your hours at the walkthrough.

Does this help with Green Star or WELL ratings for our development?

It can. Our GECA-certified products are deemed-to-satisfy for the Green Star Green Cleaning credit, and our programs can support WELL's Cleaning Products and Protocol feature and NABERS Indoor Environment outcomes. This matters most for flagship fit-outs and shopping centre landlords managing indoor air quality across large floorplates.

Can you handle multiple retail sites across Melbourne and interstate?

Yes. We operate Australia-wide through an accredited partner network, which lets multi-site retailers apply one consistent standard and scope across every store. The walkthrough process is the same at each location so quality does not drift between sites.

How does pricing compare to our current cleaner?

On standard retail scopes we price at parity with conventional cleaning. A 10 to 15 per cent premium applies only where a site is health-critical or rating-critical and needs the full certified method set. The walkthrough and quote are free, so you can compare on your actual scope.
