Non-Toxic Childcare & Early Learning Cleaning in Launceston

In an early learning centre, the cleaning method is a child safety decision. GreenClean provides low-tox childcare cleaning across Launceston — from the CBD and Kings Meadows through to the northern suburbs — built around the reality that infants crawl on your floors and put toys in their mouths.

Why low-tox is not optional in early learning

Childcare is the setting where conventional cleaning creates the most direct exposure risk. Infants spend the day at floor level, hands and mouths in constant contact with surfaces, mats and toys. Their smaller airways and higher breathing rate mean they take in more of whatever is left behind — including the volatile organic compounds that off-gas from many standard cleaning products for hours after application.

The residue question matters here more than anywhere else. When a floor is mopped with a conventional detergent-disinfectant, a film remains. On a surface a toddler crawls across, that film is on their skin and, before long, in their mouth. Our approach is built to leave no hazardous residue on the surfaces that children actually touch — while keeping proper, TGA-listed disinfection for the tasks that genuinely need it, such as nappy-change areas and illness outbreaks.

We say "no added synthetic chemicals" and "no hazardous residue" deliberately. We do not claim "chemical-free" — water is a chemical, and honest language matters when children's health is the subject.

How the methods work

Dry steam decontaminates thermally with very low moisture. It lifts soil and reduces microbial load on mats, high chairs, cots, soft-play surfaces and hard floors without leaving a wet film or a residue for little hands to find. Low moisture also means surfaces are back in use faster, which matters in rooms that never really stop.

Activated water covers two tools. Electrolysed water (HOCl) is generated on site from water and a trace of salt; it sanitises effectively and then reverts to plain salt water. Stabilised aqueous ozone reverts to oxygen and water. Neither leaves the synthetic residue that ends up on mouthed toys and crawling surfaces.

Colour-coded microfibre with disciplined dwell times prevents cross-contamination between zones — bathrooms, kitchens, nappy areas and play spaces each get their own cloths, never shared.

Where a task is disinfection-critical, we retain TGA-listed disinfectants and apply them with correct contact times. Low-tox does not mean under-cleaned. It means the right tool for each task, with the harshest chemistry reserved only for where it earns its place.

The compliance angle for centre managers

Cleaning is one of the named high-risk occupations for occupational asthma. The Svanes et al. (ECRHS) study found lung-function decline in cleaners comparable to around 20 pack-years of smoking, and the AIHW attributes 9–15 per cent of adult-onset asthma to workplace exposure. Your educators clean too — wiping, spot-mopping, sanitising toys throughout the day — so this is a direct duty-of-care matter for the people you employ.

From 1 December 2026, enforceable Workplace Exposure Limits replace the current standards across roughly 700 reviewed chemicals. Elimination sits at the top of the WHS hierarchy of controls — removing the hazard beats managing it. Switching to activated-water and dry-steam methods is elimination in practice: you cannot be over-exposed to a substance that is not on site. Choosing this now puts your centre ahead of the change rather than scrambling after it.

Our products are GECA-certified where certification applies, which supports Green Star cleaning credits for centres pursuing formal ratings and aligns with the intent of WELL's hazardous-chemical-reduction goals.

What a Launceston program looks like

Most centres run daily cleaning after close, with high-touch sanitising through the day. A typical scope covers play and activity rooms, sleep and cot areas, bathrooms and nappy-change stations, kitchen and food-prep surfaces, entry and office areas, and toy sanitising cycles. Frequency is built to your enrolment, room layout and ACECQA hygiene expectations rather than a fixed template.

Launceston's cool, damp Tamar Valley conditions add a mould and moisture consideration, particularly in sleep rooms and less-ventilated storage. Our low-moisture methods help here — we clean thoroughly without adding standing water that feeds mould growth. Centres in the CBD and surrounding suburbs get the same disciplined program regardless of size.

Pricing

We price at parity with conventional cleaning on standard scopes. A health or rating-critical site — where enhanced sanitising cycles or documented compliance support is needed — may carry a 10–15 per cent premium, and we will tell you plainly if your scope falls into that band. There is no charge for the walkthrough or the quote.

The best way to scope a childcare clean is to walk the rooms together. We will assess your surfaces, sleep areas, nappy stations and toy-sanitising needs, then give you a clear, honest quote with no obligation. Get in touch to arrange your free Launceston walkthrough.

Frequently asked questions

Is dry steam safe to use around cots, mats and soft-play equipment?

Yes. Dry steam uses very low moisture and decontaminates thermally, so it lifts soil and reduces microbial load without soaking materials. Surfaces are back in use quickly, and there is no chemical residue left on the areas children sleep and play on.

Do you still disinfect nappy-change areas properly with a low-tox approach?

We do. Disinfection-critical tasks like nappy-change stations and illness outbreaks are handled with TGA-listed disinfectants applied at correct contact times. Low-tox means reserving the harshest chemistry for where it is genuinely needed, not removing disinfection where it matters.

Why not just say your cleaning is chemical-free?

Because that claim is not accurate and the ACCC treats it as misleading. Water itself is a chemical. We say "no added synthetic chemicals" and "no hazardous residue", which is honest and describes exactly what your crawling infants are and are not exposed to.

How does this help us meet ACECQA hygiene expectations?

Our program is built around documented dwell times, colour-coded microfibre to prevent cross-contamination, and appropriate disinfection for high-risk areas. We tailor frequency and scope to your rooms and enrolment so hygiene practices are consistent and defensible under assessment.

Will switching cost more than our current cleaner?

On standard scopes we price at parity with conventional cleaning. Only health or rating-critical sites needing enhanced sanitising cycles or compliance documentation attract a 10–15 per cent premium, and we flag that upfront. The walkthrough and quote are free.
